About

About Me

My name is Olga Maly, and I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) based in Charlotte, North Carolina. I work with individuals, couples, and families dealing with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and life transitions. My goal as a therapist is to help clients strengthen communication, deepen self-awareness, enhance emotional intelligence, and cultivate meaningful relationships.

I have always been very passionate about helping people. Over the years, I’ve studied psychology, explored diverse cultural perspectives, and immersed myself in learning about the complexity of human experiences. Now, as a psychotherapist, I combine curiosity, empathy, and clinical skill to help my clients connect more fully with themselves and the world around them. Becoming a psychotherapist has truly changed my life and allowed me to do what I love the most – to help people step on the path to self-discovery and deeper self-awareness.

Counseling Approach

My approach centers on building emotional intelligence and self-awareness, grounded in the belief that meaningful growth begins with the ability to recognize, understand, and regulate one’s own emotions. I help clients gain insight into their inner world, uncover cognitive, behavioral and emotional patterns, and build the skills to respond clearly and intentionally to stress, relational challenges, and emotional triggers. With this foundation, clients are better prepared to navigate life’s demands with resilience and clarity.

I tailor each session to the unique needs of the individual or relationship, drawing from Humanistic, Emotionally-Focused, Cognitive-Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Polyvagal, and Strength-Based frameworks. I also incorporate mindfulness-based strategies to support emotional regulation, increase self-awareness, and foster a deeper, more compassionate connection to the self. My work is grounded in an integrative, holistic perspective that honors the mind-body connection as essential to understanding how people manage stress and navigate challenges in their lives.

Education & Experience

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Michigan University. During my undergraduate studies, I focused on studying cognitive psychology, evolutionary psychology, and psychopathology. I also completed coursework in social work, where I explored systemic issues, social injustice, and the broader sociocultural factors that influence mental health. These experiences helped shape my understanding of the human experience and guided my decision to pursue a career in clinical counseling. During my graduate training, I studied a range of therapeutic approaches with an emphasis on empathy, cultural sensitivity, and individualized care.

Before opening my private practice, I worked in a variety of clinical settings that built a strong foundation for working with individuals, couples, and families. I provided counseling services at the Counseling Training Clinic within the College of Education at Eastern Michigan University, completed an internship at Jewish Family Services in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and later worked in a group private practice. These experiences allowed me to support clients across diverse backgrounds and presenting concerns.

In my current practice, I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, social anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing tendencies, identity challenges, and relational struggles, including marital conflict and communication breakdowns. Many of my clients are working through betrayal trauma, major life transitions, or unresolved childhood patterns that continue to affect different areas of their lives. I also work with individuals who are learning to better understand and manage difficult emotions, set healthier boundaries, optimize self-care practices, and reconnect with their sense of self. I strive to create a safe, inclusive, and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their inner world with patience, honesty, and self-compassion.

To ensure I continue providing high-quality care, I engage in ongoing professional development through continuing education, clinical trainings, peer consultation, and research. This commitment keeps me grounded, reflective, and responsive to the evolving needs of the people I serve.
